Newest Bridal Trend: The Four-Eyed Bride

For years and years brides have strived for perfection on their big day. To prep, women have been known to diet, wax, tweeze, pluck, dye, occasional nipping and tucking, but getting fit for contacts or LASIK doesn’t usually come to mind. Alas, that has been the fate for the majority of the bridal population. In the United States over 50% of women wear glasses and only 18% of those women wear contacts regularly. So what does this mean for the 32% of brides who wear glasses but not contacts?

Every bride knows the time between the engagement and the wedding is vital and every second counts. Between the save the dates, the invitations, booking the location, the officiant, the band and the god forsaken guest list, most brides don’t have the time to run to the ophthalmologist to get fitted for contacts or to dedicate the time to get and recover from LASIK.

From these aggravated brides came a few trendsetters who said “screw it” and sported their glasses down the aisle. There have been critics who claim it dresses down your wedding dress but why should these brides have to change their individual look to fit into an industry mold of the “perfect bride.” According to the Offbeat Bride, there are two strategies for wearing glasses at your wedding: wear what’ve you got or get new ones!

Many people who wear glasses know that after a while your glasses become a part of your face. So, just as you’d buy a wedding dress to fit your shape, shouldn’t it fit your face as well? Besides, miracles can be done with makeup and fake lashes. (i.e., Kate Moss, Renee Zellwegger, etc.)

It’s amazing how changing your glasses changes your face. Don’t be scared to try something new and experiment a little. Bold, dramatic glasses can really give your dress a modern look. You can coordinate these glasses with the dress, the décor, the flowers, the color of your hubbies eyes, absolutely anything. Right now you may thinking that you’re catching me with a foot in my mouth, here I’m saying you can spare time to shop for new glasses (a very timely ordeal) but not to get fit for contacts or LASIK but (yes, there is a but), with the help of LensesRX.com you can find the perfect frames at a fraction of the time and the cost.

You’ve already spent a ton on the dress, the hall, the flowers, the rings; spare yourself from buying a pair of designer frames at retail prices. LensesRX gives you discount prescription glasses at wholesale prices which means you can afford to buy a special pair for your honey moon too, maybe a transitional pair to soak in the sun from Bora Bora!

It’s 2010 and it’s about time that we take a stand and say “Let them wear glasses!”

Ankle Season 2010

There’s a day in every spring season that every girl preps for and every guy dreams of. Back during my college days at Quinnipiac University, there was a day every year that our Quad went berserk. People were no longer rushing to get to class but sitting back and relaxing under the great Arnold Bernhard Library clock tower. They were no longer hidden under their beloved Uggs and Northfaces but wearing flip flops and denim skirts. This was the inspiration behind my friends’ creation of Ankle Day.

Ankle Day isn’t the first day of spring; it’s the first day that the thermometers break 65 degrees and every girl drops her trousers and replaces it with something that bares their shoulders and ankles (hence the name). Back in April when we hit 90°, it was easy to imagine the hundreds of girls who have bypassed class to suntan on the Quad in their newest spring break bikini. It's now June and getting closer and closer to summer, even though with the passing of Memorial Day, we are all allowed to wear white but technically, still not summer.

Here are a few of my favorite Ankle Day and Summer trends that are sure to take your wardrobe from a typical college girl at a Kenny Chesney concert (denim skirt, halter top and flip flops) to a true summer chic.

Floral Jewelry – Ok yes, Marie-Lise Lachapelle is a client but take one look at any of her floral or ocean collections and tell me they don’t scream summer. Take any of her orchid pieces and add it to a plain outfit and suddenly you have a whole new dimension. Also, all of her lariats are customizable so you’re really get three pieces for the same price: a necklace, a hairpiece, and a pin. You can choose any color that you would like, I personally love the blues and purples but choose which ever color works best with your skin tone, hair color, or outfits. These pieces can take a simple t-shirt with jean shorts and give you a new and different boho twist.

Sundresses – Sundresses should always be a staple in your summer wardrobe. Period. Sundresses have the capability of capturing the easy going and free flying feeling of summer. I suggest Vineyard Vines’ Starlight dress in Coconut. I know it seems a little dark for a sundress but browns are a great alternative to black. Black is a harsh color that will almost always make you look whiter or redder (depending on the degree of your burn). This dress with its starfish embellishment would look amazing with Marie-Lise Lachapelle’s Sand Dollar Necklace (see what I mean, the woman is good).

LWD (Translation: Little White Dress) – Yes this is similar to a sundress but it’s white! White dresses are the biggest trend this summer and I can definitely see why. White brings out the best in most skin tones and screams innocence and elegance. One of my favorites of the season is this Pins and Needles Lace Open Back Shift Dress from Urban Outfitters. Matched with beige heels and your legs will seem longer and leaner.

Nautical Look – Another one of Spring 2010’s hottest trends is the nautical look. For those of you who don’t know what I mean consider a very chic Pop-eye. The navy and white with a splash of red is an iconic summer look and the best thing is you can find variations from Rebecca Minkoff to H&M! You can easily find pieces to fit your style and budget. Check out TheFashionPolice.net for some great ideas of pieces you can mix and match!

Clutch – Big heavy bags are a thing of the winter past. You’ve shed all those layers why hold onto all the weight? Let it go and grab a clutch. Carrying a clutch is a great way to compliment an outfit without overpowering it. My suggestion and slight reach clutch is from one of NYC’s newest and hottest young designers and a personal friend, Jen Mascali. Although they are a pretty penny, the craftsmanship of her clutches and handbags are unlike anything you’ve ever seen. The handcrafted, unadulterated leather will surely turn a few heads as you walk through the crowd with your perfect LWD! To check out her full line, follow her on Facebook and keep posted until her website is up and running!

Central Park Yoga – So I know I’ve been talking mainly clothes and accessories but what summer trend article is complete without talking about some serious outdoor yoga sessions. Ok, maybe that’s a stretch but it happens to be one of my favorite summer activities in NYC. Besides who wouldn’t want to breathe in the city skyline with the backdrop of Central Park while working on your inner chi. After all Ankle Day and the following season are meant to show off those legs, why not be proud of them?

Competely LOST PT2.

So, this upcoming summer my boyfriend and I have plans to watch every episode of LOST created on DVD. So I have made it my new goal to pay special attention to the questions addressed in this College Humor video:

One question that I'm a little upset that they hadn't mentioned in this College Humor video is: Why did they have to have Jack marry Juliet in real life and have a kid, have them get divorced, and not acknowledge each other in their heaven church?

And yes, it was pretty gross when when Hurley ate straight out of that tub of ranch dressing.

Completely LOST

Last night, I sat in front of the TV in my apartment with my boyfriend, for 6 straight hours watching all things LOST. Yes, from 7pm to 1am, I sat and reviewed all the character information in the LOST series finale preview show, I clung to every word during the finale, and I waited and hoped and prayed for an answer during Jimmy Kimmel.

As much as I have always loved LOST and its very predictable way of being unpredictable, I sat last night and wondered, have I had that equation backwards the whole time? Each episode, the events may be hard to pinpoint but last night, the writers chose an ending that was foreseeable from episode one.

After all their trials and tribulations, the cast separations and reunions, even the occasional visit from the smoke monster, and the whole time they were destined to die and live in their own purgatory until they completed the heaven they created for each other.

Now, from what I gather and believe, the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815 did survive the crash and have lived their lives out on the island. They did leave the island and return and they died in their own time and place and waited for each other to reassemble before they ascended into TV heaven.

However, was I the only one who felt a little nostalgia for Titanic? The very heaven the granny version of Rose DeWitt Bukater (then known as Rose Dawson after successful identity fraud) had created for herself and those far less fortunate who drowned in the wreckage of the Titanic seemed to peek interest in the minds of LOST's writers. Although, unlike their trio of spoof alternate endings, they chose not to point out the similarity in the finale of their choice.

I could be wrong, my boyfriend for one did not appreciate my comparison, but I still can't help but remembering two very similar quotes. As Jack walks into the church, couldn't you just see the last Titanic scene?

I mean, come on.

Anyway, aside from that, I did like how they tried to conclude the story line but they bit off a little more than they could chew. The posed too many questions to ever answer and I'm sorry but they really couldn't give an explanation for the damn polar bear? Really?

But what more can I say, LOST was and forever will be an amazing show. Oceanic Flight 815 will be forever embedded in my memory and will continue to make it impossible to remember my own flight number for a long time to come.

Back to the Stat-Rat Race.

Well, I just got back from vacation (4 days in Daytona, 3 days in Disney) and I'm starting to wish I never went. Not because I didn't have an amazing time but because I didn't realize how grueling my life has become until I left and have rejoined the working world.

I'm currently an Account Coordinator for a boutique public relations firm in Soho, which I love. I love the clients, I love my boss, I love the office, I love the area, however, I do not love the ratio of work to paycheck but who does?

I would love to go back to Disney and escape from life on the Expedition Everest and have my biggest worry be when is the Yetti going to jump out at me. But now I'm back at work and it's a whole world-wind of pitching, deadlines, event planning, client relations, media relations, following up, and even some occasional spy work for a client who is currently involved in a lawsuit with a copy cat designer.

Although, I do not have any particular theme for this blog I will be discussing whatever comes to mind so feel free to consider this the Seinfeld of blogs: the blog about nothing.
